This year’s theme “Pride & Pedigree” highlights the change which occurred during the Victorian Era in the relationship between animals and their owners from working livestock to adored family pets. Instead of the labor animals performed, pets were valued for companionship and prized for their appearance. This era saw a shift in the pet industry through the breeding of pure-breeds and the establishment of kennel clubs. It was also the beginning of animal rights through organizations like the “Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.”

12 PM – “Pedigree Meets Canines: Dog Fanciers in the Victorian Era” with Dr. Susan Ross.
1 PM – “SPCA History Trivia” with Victoria Stryker, SPCA Executive Director.
2 PM – “Ways You Can Help” with Missy Black, SPCA Volunteer Manager, Laura Gilson and Baron, SPCA Volunteers, and Mindee Lyon, SPCA Development Director.
